Saying Goodbye . . . .

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends the animals, especially for animals who are suffering; for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that must be put to death. We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

We lost our sweet dog Lita this week. She was educated at Dixie State University - raised in a house with 8 guys. My son BJ was the one who trained her, saw that she got her shots, and got spayed. When BJ came to USU, she took up residence with us and was a part of our family for 12 years. At the end, I held the phone to her ear so BJ could say goodbye from Finland, and she knew his voice.

We know we will outlive our pets, but it breaks our hearts to lose them.

I keep thinking I need to let her in or out; I listen for her padding down the hallway to join me. She always ended up in the same room where I was, and was a good listener when I read manuscripts out loud. She was a gentle soul.

I miss her so much.
