The Gruff Variations: Writing for Charity Anthology, Vol. 1, an Ebook by Writing for Charity

Download at www.smashwords.com. 100% of the profits  will provide books and school supplies for underprivileged children through Writing for Charity (writingforcharity.com).

The stories and poetry in this anthology were all inspired by the legend of the Three Billy Goats Gruff. Mine is "The Troll by the Footbridge: a Study in Four Parts."

As a programmer, I have to rate "Billy Goats Who C Sharp: A Norwegian Folktale" by Jared E. Stoddard as the best piece in the anthology. It's clever and experimental and multi-layered (or at least it is if you're a programmer).

But that's the programmer geek side of me speaking. As a reader? Your story was far and away the most moving, beautiful story in the anthology. I really, truly enjoyed it.

Martin, how very kind of you to say that. I was in Finland at the time, so I set it there (w/o mentioning a specific country) and I asked some Finns what they remembered about trolls from childhood stories, etc. It was fun to write, especially in that environment, where I felt . . . well, closer to the troll.

Thanks for taking the time to write. You made my day!
