Demise of the typewriter

Yesterday, the very last manual typewriter manufacturer closed down (electronic typewriters are still being manufactured). The Indian company will sell what is left of their stock, but after those are purchased, people will have to track them down through private sales. What are your feelings on this? Do you own any of these magnificent relics? When was the last time you used one?

I don't know if my kids have ever seen one! Gosh, those days of white-out, carbons, and typewriter erasers - I won't miss them!

My high school graduation present was a second-hand portable typewriter, my dearest friend as I left home and wrote not only (brilliant) papers for my classes, but copious, verbose letters that kept me connected with home. My mother saved them all and returned them to me years later. Now I have a personal history I didn't realize I'd written. I don't remember when I stopped using that typewriter, or when I finally got rid of it, but it served me well and It ranks right up there with the thesaurus my parents gave me for my 16th birthday as the most important gifts I ever received.
