This month #1 son has a rotation in the surgical ICU. It's a very challenging setting, as the patients are in critical condition. Some will recover but some won't. The physicians have to make difficult decisions and be on the alert for any changes in the patients. They must also deal with families under tremendous stress as a loved one is treated. I admire my son's strength of character as he continues in his training. His compassion will help him in this setting.
