Today is the 175th birthday of Samuel Clemens, pen name: Mark Twain. Controversy notwithstanding, American literature has certainly been transformed by the author who created Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. A lucky man indeed - Halley's Comet was visible at the time of his birth!

Mr. Twain is my idol. He had a great sense of humor, he was a deep thinker, and he wrote as if he was in the center of the universe, even though at the time most of the world wasn't impressed with America. He helped put American literature on the map.
