More to Anne Frank's story . . .

Interesting to read Otto Frank's actual petition to emigrate to the US. It's sad that it was denied.

As for making Anne Frank an honorary citizen, well ... nothing will change the original decision, or the sadness of the entire situation. But it's nice that someone at least wants to make an attempt to show regret.

Thanks for the link.

I have mixed feelings about it. The citizenship would grant Otto's wish and in so doing, admit some terrible mistakes we made during the war (remember the orphan trains, children we dind't accept?)
As long as Dutch citizenship would stay intact. Or maybe there is another way to honor Anne and all the other nameless victims we "overlooked" and didn't assist. Perhaps it's already been done at the Holocaust museum. I don't know. But her diary has certainly touched generations and will continue to do so. And that will be her greatest legacy.

Very interesting. I see a little re-writing of history in that article, but all in all, it was mostly factual.

I don't believe it matters one way or the other - but that little girl suffered through unmitigated hell and if a nation, this time America, wishes to honor her with citizenship, what does it hurt? No one and no thing. It is an honor and privilege some wish to bestow on her and I think it is a good thing.

Many American citizens have dual citizenship, so of course her Dutch citizenship would remain intact unless the Dutch, very stupidly, disowned her. Which they would never do.

How very, very ironic and sad. Maybe a better tribute would be to improve our immigration laws.
